Mushrooms, part of the kingdom shared with fungi yeasts and molds can be incredibly toxic, incredibly healing, and incredibly delicious. Just think of peyote and truffles as the two of the most celebrated of this family. Some are more medicinal, others more culinary.Â
While there are plenty of “bad” fungi, yeasts and molds, there are even more good ones. They essentially keep our soil alive. In addition, most fermentation that we love (alcohol, bread, some cheeses, salami, need say more?) are based on these critters. They have untold medicinal properties, including anti-cancer, andti-bacterial (penicillin comes from a mold), and mind-altering/healing.
Each type of mushroom or yeast has unique characteristics, just like the variety of herbs and foods that are provided by the Earth.
