Prolactin

Prolactin is a peptide hormone made in the anterior pituitary gland by specialized cells called lactotrophs. Interestingly, they stain red with red#3, also known as __________. 

Prolactin’s primary purpose is to tell breast tissue to make milk, pro-lact. It is stimulated by anti-dopamine medications and inhibited by dopamine medications such as bromocriptine. 

While prolactin is not a part of the every-day hormonal cycles, it’s presence, absence or excess can create secondary imbalances,
