Banana is a controvercial food, high in sugar and lectins, but also showing special properties. In the unripe versions, such as plantain, the starch (not yet converted to sugar) can help certain gut conditions, acting as a “prebiotic”. Certain cultivars demonstrate activity against Candida biofilms, which can be valuable.
