The Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) refers to the natural peak of cortisol (adrenal hormone) in the morning which provides energy for arousal and getting the day started. If under stress and too high, it can raise blood pressure and blood sugar in the morning. If it occurs too early in the morning, it can wake people at 4-5 am. If it occurs too late, then waking is difficult and there may be anxious and/or irritable periods during the daytime…
