“Mild Cognitive Impairment” (MCI) is a term used for very mild dementia. MCI can be thought of as having two patterns: 1) the more common, showing slowly and progressively over time with aging, usually progressive, and 2) occuring after a specific event such as trauma or surgery, in which case the changes are more sudden in onset and usually not progressive, sometimes even regressive (i.e. showing healing).
The impairment, or dysfunction(s) can affect emotions, thought, memory, attention, creativity, and other regulatory functions such as sleep, blood pressure, heart rhythm, and even digestion.
